Aceite de romero para el pelo: cómo usarlo bien

Rosemary oil for hair: how to use it properly

Rosemary essential oil has become one of the favourites for caring for hair naturally. It invigorates the scalp, adds shine and leaves a fresh feeling you notice from the very first use. But, like any essential oil, it works best when you know how to use it.

Why rosemary is so good for hair

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) has a herbal, clean and invigorating scent. Massaged into the scalp, it helps stimulate circulation in the area and keep the scalp healthy, which is the foundation of strong hair. It also balances excess oil and adds shine.

How to use it: three easy ways

1. Pre-wash massage · the most complete

  • Mix 3 drops of rosemary essential oil into one tablespoon (about 15 ml) of jojoba or argan vegetable oil.
  • Apply the blend to your scalp with your fingertips, in circular movements, for 3-5 minutes.
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes to an hour (or overnight if your hair is dry), then wash as usual.
  • Repeat 2 or 3 times a week.

2. In your shampoo

Add 1 drop of rosemary to the amount of shampoo you use for each wash, massage well and rinse.

If you'd rather mix it into the bottle, use no more than 10 drops per 250 ml of shampoo and shake well before each use: essential oil doesn't dissolve in shampoo and tends to separate, so without shaking some washes would get more oil than they should.

3. On the ends

If your hair is dry, one drop of the rosemary and argan blend on damp ends helps nourish them without weighing hair down.

Which vegetable oil to choose

  • Jojoba: light and non-greasy, ideal for oily or combination scalps.
  • Argan: richer, perfect for dry or damaged hair.

Consistency is key

Hair oils work with consistency. Keep up the routine for several weeks to notice stronger, shinier hair.

Precautions

  • Never apply the essential oil neat to the skin: always dilute it in a vegetable oil.
  • Not suitable for young children, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with epilepsy or high blood pressure.
  • Do a patch test on a small area before using it for the first time.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes.
