Natural skincare routine: how to combine serum and cream
A good skincare routine doesn't need ten steps. A gentle cleanse, a serum suited to your skin and a good cream cover the essentials. The key is choosing each product well and knowing how to combine them.
The routine in four steps
- Cleanse, morning and night.
- Serum, for your skin type.
- Cream, on face, neck and décolleté.
- Sunscreen, mornings only.
Step 1: cleanse your skin
Always start with clean skin. At night, if you wear make-up, a vegetable oil such as jojoba gently removes it before your usual cleanser.
Step 2: a serum for your skin type
Serum concentrates the active ingredients and is what makes the difference in your routine.
Combination, oily or blemish-prone skin: Balance Serum
A water-based hydra-serum with a light emulsion texture that absorbs quickly and leaves no residue. It contains hyaluronic acid, squalane, goji extract, vitamin C and petitgrain and lemon essential oils. It balances the skin, evens out skin tone and minimises imperfections.
Dry or mature skin: Regenerating Serum
A very light oil-serum with sandalwood and ylang ylang essential oils and inca inchi, jojoba and calendula vegetable oils. It nourishes, brightens and leaves skin visibly renewed. Like all oils, it works best on slightly damp skin.
Step 3: the cream
Radiance Cream is our nourishing, firming anti-ageing cream. It contains bakuchiol, a plant-based alternative to retinol, along with immortelle and myrrh essential oils and shea butter. It smooths the skin and helps reduce expression lines. Apply it in circular movements on face, neck and décolleté.
Serum before or after cream?
The general rule is to go from the lightest texture to the richest. Our serums and Radiance Cream are formulated to work in either order, so you can adapt it to your skin:
- Dry or mature skin: Regenerating Serum on damp skin, then the cream to seal in hydration.
- Young or dehydrated skin, with open pores or prone to breakouts: Radiance Cream first, then Balance Serum on top, which leaves skin fresh and shine-free.
Step 4: sunscreen in the morning
In the morning, always finish with sun protection. It's the most effective anti-ageing step there is.
A bonus: gua sha
After your serum, a few minutes of gua sha, gliding the stone from the centre outwards and from bottom to top, helps decongest the face and spread the product evenly.
Your routine at a glance
- Morning: cleanse, serum, cream and sunscreen.
- Night: cleanse (with jojoba oil if you wear make-up), serum and cream.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use both serums?
Yes. If you have both oily and dry areas, use Balance Serum on your T-zone and Regenerating Serum on the drier areas.
How long until I notice a new routine working?
Skin renews itself roughly every month, so give it at least four weeks of consistency.
Can I use bakuchiol during the day?
Yes, Radiance Cream is applied morning and night. Even so, always wear sunscreen in the morning.
